A **portal code** is twelve hex digits, one per glyph dialled at a portal: planet (1), system (3), Y (2), Z (3), X (3). A **galactic address** (`0824:007F:00F3:01AC`, what a signal booster shows) is X:Y:Z:system. The two frames disagree only about where zero is: portal coordinates count from the centre of the galaxy, galactic ones from a corner. The galactic form cannot carry the planet, so converting to a code needs it chosen (0 = the first planet).
